Is Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice campaigning to be John McCain’s running mate? Recently, the news has been broadly discussed in international media. Dan Senor, a former military spokesman for coalition forces in Baghdad, firstly sent out the signals in a program in ABC, and said that Ms. Rice spoke last week before an unusual forum for a secretary of state: “Condoleezza Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this.”
If Senor is right and Rice is actively campaigning for the VP spot, then that is a dramatic turnaround for her. She was very consistent on insisting she didn’t want to run for president. She’s also been consistent when it comes to denying any interest in being the VP. She instead telling reporters she plans to head back to Stanford University. “I very much look forward to watching this campaign and voting as a voter,” she said. “I have a lot of work to do and then I’ll happily go back to Stanford.”
Anyway, we could discussion the possibility of Rice’s choices and whether she is suitable for Beijing the vice president. For McCain’s team, they should take into consideration Rice’s “Women + Black” advantages as a partner, to compete with Hillary and Obama. Without doubt, Rice is a perfect candidate to be the running mate.
There are those who say that she would be perfect because she has the experience that John McCain insists is important for the position, including being a foreign policy advisor to Senator Gary Hart during his presidential campaign, Provost of Stanford University, head of Chevron’s committee on public policy and served as the President’s National Security Advisor before she became Secretary of State. Then there are those who say her involvement with the Bush administration would hurt. John McCain has put the blame for the war on not only the President, but also on members of the administration, including Rice.
Although John McCain insist on denying the related news, nonetheless, he also took a few moments to compliment Ms. Rice. “I think she’s a great American, I think there’s very little that I can say that isn’t anything but the utmost praise for a great American citizen, who served as a role model to so many millions of people in this country and around the world,” McCain said, adding that “her overall record is very, very meritorious.”
However, regarding the Iraq Policy during the Bush’s Administration, John McCain has told the reporters that Rice should take some responsibilities for Iraq War, because she is in charge of the National Security Affairs during that period.
